Thatched Holiday
Being in the location that we are, you are very close to literally hundreds of places to visit, activities and things to keep you occupied
Art and Culture
The Sun Gallery is just across the road from the cottage. The Steeple Art Centre will be opening shortly just along the High Street with gallery space and open studios. The delightful Laing Museum sits between the two. Perth has a fine museum and art gallery, and is just a short walk from both the traditional Perth Theatre and the exciting new cultural venue at "Horsecross"
Birdwatching
Positioned between hills and the river, with its extensive reed beds, Newburgh is a wonderful base from which to observe many species of resident and migrant birds. A pair of Ospreys has been breeding in the area now for some years and can often be spotted over the river or competing with fisherman on Loch of Lindores and Golden Loch.
Cycling
Whether your preference is for speedy Spandex, pedal-propelled picnics or manic mudspattering, you can do it from here. We are on the National Cycle Network, Kingdom of Fife Route. There are lots of quiet roads where you can enjoy the scenery and many interesting places to visit within cycling distance. Local forest tracks offer some exciting and challenging off-road routes or drive for an hour and you are in the Highlands.
Food
If you enjoy good food, Perthshire and Fife have some of the finest ingredients available. Jamesfield Organic Centre a couple of miles along the road supplies everything organic and has its own restaurant. Pillars of Hercules near Falkland is the place to go for lunch or coffee and to stock up with local organic produce, as well as being a base for some delightful walks, including the Maspie Den waterfall. Auchtermuchty Venison, Balhelvie Beef and Bridgend Beef are all available from the farm gate. Wonderful fresh fish from the East Neuk of Fife is sold from small vans all around the area.
Fishing
Newburgh is on the Tay, Scotlands longest and most famous salmon river. There is local stillwater fishing at Golden Loch, and Loch of Lindores
Golf
Including the famous links at St Andrews and Carnoustie there are up to a hundred golf courses within an hour's drive of here.
Sightseeing
Whether you want the buzz of the city or the space and freedom of the countryside, it is all within easy reach. Edinburgh and Glasgow are each around an hour's drive. The fishing villages of the East Neuk and the glorious Tentsmuir Sands are only 40 minutes away. Enjoy the city of Perth just 10 miles away or onward from there some wonderful day trips around the mountains and lochs of Perthshire or even further a field through to the West Coast.
Walking
Leave your car at the cottage and you have long or short river walks, hill walks or combinations of both, all away from the traffic. You will find views across to the mountains and towards the sea, the Tay from every angle in every light, is a beautiful river. Drive for an hour and you can walk by the sea or in the hills and mountains... even bag a few Munroes and still be back for supper.
