Thatched Holiday
If you are looking for a place to stay in Scotland, close to Perth with lots of possibilities... access, comfort, culture, cycle routes, fishing, golf, hillwalking, relaxation, sailing, sightseeing, water... you have just found it!
The Thatched Cottage
Under a roof of traditional Scottish reed thatch with a turf ridge, the ground floor of this 400 year old listed building provides, cosy, colourful, quirky accommodation to let for two.
Sitting Room
Thick walls, a low ceiling, small traditional windows and a cast iron stove, ensure that this room is always easy to keep warm. Squishy sofas, warm colours and flexible lighting allow you to be quiet and relaxed, cosy and intimate or hosting in style... whatever your whim. If you have work to do or just want to keep in touch there is wireless internet access. If you enjoy music there is the beautiful sound quality of a Bose music player to listen to... simply plug in your i-pod or laptop, or choose from my eclectic selection of some 250 CDs.If you like to read, there is a small but thoughtful selection of books to stimulate your imagination. There is no television but if that is your chosen form of entertainment, there is an aerial socket for you to plug in your portable. If your guests do not want to drive home, one of the sofas converts quickly into a comfortable double bed.
Kitchen
Two steps down from the sitting room you will find a practical and comfortable dining kitchen with all the equipment you need to rustle up a quick snack or create a gourmet dinner. In its normal configuration you can seat 3 adults at the lovely old pine table, but a quick and easy shift creates room for 4 or more... the challenge is to beat my best effort of 6 adults and a toddler! If the weather won't let you hang things out, there is a traditional pulley airer. The automatic washing machine also has an integral tumble dryer.
Bedroom
A really comfortable double bed is the natural focus of the room, the
headboard and lighting are designed for reading, eating breakfast or just
listening to the digital radio (you can of course take that anywhere in the
house when you get up).
There are drawers and loads of hanging space for your
clothes and still plenty of room to move about.
Bathroom
The bathroom sits between the bedroom and the sitting room. Not the usual fan-assisted box room!... there is a lovely wee window giving natural light. You can luxuriate in the full size bath or have an invigorating shower.
Outside
In front of the cottage is a large area of traditional stone setts with room to
park up to 4 cars... that includes the upstairs neighbour so that leaves 3.
Behind is a choice of places to sit... in fact you can follow the sun from breakfast
to supper, provided there are gaps in the clouds!
The evening sun in the summer hits an area next to a beautiful old weavers house.
There you will find a wood-burning chimenea to keep the evening chill off and a
barbecue to cook your supper.
There is a whirly clothesline for your laundry, and a heated drying room for your wet
and muddy stuff. If cycling is your thing,
there is a locking stone built shed to keep your bikes safe.
Newburgh
Newburgh is an old weaving town, which grew up in the orchards of Lindores Abbey.
It lies on the South bank of the river Tay just 10 miles from the city of Perth on
the A913 St Andrews road.
The town is pretty well self-contained as far as shops
and facilities are concerned, plus there are some special attractions on the High
Street. There is a fine local museum, an antique shop, an interior designer, an arts
centre, a powerboat training school, a wonderful wool shop, a florist, a handmade hat
shop and a vibrant new art gallery. There are beautiful walks along the Tay and up the
hill behind the town.
You are only...
- 10 miles from Perth
- 20 miles from St Andrews or Dundee
- 40 miles from Edinburgh Airport
and within an hour's drive of...
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow
- The East Neuk of Fife
- Perthshire mountains
- The sea
- 100 golf courses
